Why Boilers?

Several reasons to choose boiler heat...

•   Quiet:
With a warm air system, heated air is conducted through sheet metal ducts that expand and contract as the air temperature rises and falls. This results in noise from the heating ducts. Another major noise factor with a warm air system is the sound of the blower when the furnace is operating. Hydronic systems are noiseless.

•   System Lifespan:
Boiler systems typically last more than 25 years if properly maintained.

•   Comfort:
Homes heat and cool evenly thus eliminating the hot and cold blasts of air found with conventional systems.

•  Free Hot Water Generation:
With a hydronic system almost endless hot water can be supplied from the boiler, all year round with an indirect fired water heater or a tankless heater. Indirect water heaters do not have a separate fuel supply, such as a gas pilot light, but rather use the hot water generated by a boiler to heat domestic water.

•  Clean and Safe:
Heating systems, in themselves, do not create dirt. Dirt results from cooking, air infiltration and tracking it in from the outside. However, warm air heating systems create turbulence because they operate with a blower. Rapid agitation of the air causes dirt particles to be deposited on walls, furnishings, curtains and drapes. Even filters cannot effectively control this situation, inasmuch as they trap only larger particles of dirt.


With a hydronic system, heat is gently circulated uniformly and without sudden on-and-off cycles that create turbulence. This fact, plus the fact that a hydronic system operates at relatively low temperatures, allows you to keep a cleaner home.

How Does a Hydronic Heating System (Boiler) Work?

Hydronic heating maintains comfort in your home with hot water circulating to every room. The system basically consists of a boiler, pump and baseboards connected by water piping. The boiler heats water to temperatures between 120º and 210º, and the water is then pumped through the piping in the baseboards located around the outer perimeter of the home for a curtain of warmth, or in the floor in radiant systems.

Radiant systems are special composite plastic piping systems embedded in the floor. The energy from the heated water in the pipes radiates to the surrounding environment, warming the floors, furniture, and anyone in the room. Cold tile floors become warm and inviting, and they provide maximum decorating versatility – you never have to worry about where to put furniture.

When the room thermostat calls for heat, the Munchkin boiler control board will start the pump and start to monitor the return water temperature of the system before the heater will begin to heat the water. Once the controller has sensed a drop in the return water temperature below the temperature set point minus the differential set point, the Munchkin boiler will start to heat the water.
